Directions:

2 ways to go:

1- The nicer, faster ONLY when there is heavy traffic way- Toward Bodega Bay through Occidental.

The way I drive there is up 101 to Petaluma. Take the exit toward Bodega Bay. It’s called Washington (East Washington I think). Once thru downtown Petaluma the road changes name to the Bodega Road. Miles later, you pass thru the tiny town of Valley Ford about ¾ of the way to Bodega Bay. Just past Valley Ford there is a turnoff for Freestone/Occidental. It’s called the Valley Ford/Freestone Road (very creative these names...)  Take that road for about 2 miles till the turn for Occidental/ Bohemian Highway. Follow Bohemian Highway thru the woods and over the creeks to grandmother’s house we go- about 20 to 30 minutes.  When Bohemian Highway opens up into little Monte Rio there is a Firehouse on the left. That is the turn-up into Starrett Hill (Heroin Hill) neighborhood.

2- The fastest way when there is no/lite traffic.

101 to River Road, west to Monte Rio.

The most tried, true, direct way is all the way up 101 past Santa Rosa to River Road (NOT Guerneville Road) and West on River Road past Korbel, past Guerneville into Monte Rio. This is fast off-peak times. For about 4 years there is constant traffic in Santa Rosa on 101 (including Saturday and Sunday) due to construction. Also- if it is a big event weekend expect slow traffic on River Road.

Continue on River Road to Monte Rio. At the Monte Rio Movie Theatre veer left, then turn left to cross the River. Across the bridge turn right at the stop sign to get to the Firehouse and turn right (uphill).

Once at the firehouse:

This is a quick steep hill so the map is a bit misleading. At the intersection above the firehouse continue straight on Starrett Hill and drive till you get to the house. (Is that vague enough?)

Goat Trail warning- it's a very narrow road. Once on Starrett Hill it’s one car at a time. Please drive slowly!

Be careful. No zooming in sexy cars on the blind curves.

No matter which way you come there are very few gas/service stations away from 101. If you need gas- get it in (depending on how you go…) Petaluma or Sebastopol, Santa Rosa or in Guerneville (2 stations in town on River Road).
